Angora Goat Shearing

Here is Cinnamon, he's a 3 year old Angora goat with a lot of lovely curls! Angora goats give mohair, many of us know of mohair sweaters as being not only warm but soft and light to wear but not many of us know where that mohair comes from!

Here you can see I've started shearing from his back side forward, and you can see the soft fuzzy side of his curley coat.
And here he is with his completed summer crew cut so he can go out and impress the ladies all summer with how cool he is!

Early Spring Gardening

It's Spring!

This year we decided to try and extend our growing season by creating low tunnels over our 4 raised beds. And because of the carrot stealing dogs and the chickens we had to put it all behind a fence with a gate. Although we did create two smaller beds infront of the garden and to the left of the garden that we will fill with flowers as 'scraficial lambs' to the chickens just incase.

I must say the chickens have done a great job of getting rid of the slugs. I didn't know it before but they actually eat slug eggs! Yeah!!

So far we have carrots, celery, cabbage, kale, swiss char, oriental greens, and a bunch more I can't remember, all planted in the two far right beds. We will try modified crop rotation this year, planting every two weeks and replanting as soon as the first sucession plantings are harvested.
